Card Coded is a 2-D platformer that was developed in 48 hours for the Ludem Dare 41 game jam. All assets in Card Coded were created by me within the time span of the jam.
The theme of Ludem Dare 41 was to create a game that combined two incompatible (later corrected to improbable) game genres. After spending a couple minutes thinking of different ideas such as a match 3 racing game, I settled on the idea of a card based platformer where the player must navigate a level only controlling their character via cards in their hand.

with the basic idea out of the way I decided to run a quick prototype to make sure I could pull it off in the time that I had.

Prototyping went pretty smooth and I worked out the 3 most basic actions I knew I would need; walking, jumping, and turning around. Now that I knew what my idea was I spent a couple minutes breaking up the time I had remaining into small milestones to keep me on track, this ended up being roughly 1 hour for pre-production, 20 hours for production, 2 hours for level design, 18 hours for sleep and food (it was 48 hours total but over 3 days time), 2 hours for final polish, and 5 hours for buffer.
Over the next couple days I continued to develop the game, changing the art style part way through to something a bit more appealing. The actual development went pretty smoothly, adding in some enemies, three new cards (attack, pulling switches, and shuffling cards in your hand back into the deck), pickups to add more cards to the deck, and finally some polish.

The entire experience was incredibly fun and I did quite well placing 160th overall out of roughly 2000 submissions, as well as receiving a lot of great reviews.
